Bio

sallyphoto3 cropMs. Christian practices as an educational specialist in Mill Valley, California. She holds a Mild/Moderate Professional Clear Level II credential and Masters in Learning and Instruction from the University of San Francisco School of Education.

Ms. Christian has worked at the elementary level for both the West Contra Costa Unified School District(WCCUSD) and the Mill Valley School District(MVSD).  For the WCCUSD she received two “Day of the Teacher’” awards serving a very culturally diverse student body. She worked on a team to implement a Learning Center, Response to Intervention (using Dynamic Indicators of Early Basic Literacy Skills, DIBELS) and school wide literacy screenings. For the MVSD she had the opportunity to work at two school sites and increase her skills in formal assessment.  Ms.Christian recently studied Stern Structural Arithmetic with Temple Ary at the Parkside School in New York.  

Prior to Ms.Christian’s employment in the public schools she worked as a Primary Room assistant and after-school teacher at the Montessori-inspired Marin Horizon School in Mill Valley. During this time she supported students with different learning styles and first became interested in special education.

Ms. Christian has a background in the literary and performing arts with an MFA in Creative Writing from Sarah Lawrence.  She has offered children’s drama classes at the O’Hanlon Center of the Arts, published her original poems and co-translations, and served as an administrator for the not- for- profit Odissi Vilas: Sacred Dance of India. She is married to Leif Christian, and is the mother of Adrian Bennett, who is a freshman at college.

She volunteers at Bridge the Gap, loves poetry, classical Indian Odissi dance, hiking and piano.
