Writing
Writing is a process that requires practice. Writers plan, compose, revise and edit by inquiry, self-assessment, and self-regulation. The more we write, the better we write.Writing supports reading. When we read, we can examine how a writer writes, and when we write we can become more aware of how to decode words, or comprehend a text. It is most important for a writer to write for meaning.
Writing instruction needs to be developmentally appropriate and to always emphasize work that allows the student to write about what they are interested in and what is important to them. Some students have to work very hard to write, and careful assessment needs to take place in advance of crafting a mindful instructional plan.
